SPRING ESSENTIALS

I know this post is a little late coming considering it's been spring for a little over a month now, but it's difficult to even begin to think about spring when the place that you live is still stuck in winter. That's right, there is still traces of snow where I am located. Our seasons consist of winter, winter, winter and fall. Oh and approximately two weeks out of the entire year that spring and summer decide to make an appearance. But do I let that bother me? No, not at all. As soon as the weather hits 1 degree it's time to pretend that spring is here.

All frustrations aside it's time to move forward to positive thinking and making that transition from winter to spring. I'll fill you in on the key essentials to add to your wardrobe this spring! Say goodbye to parkas and hello to trenches, spring is in the air.

1. The Boyfriend Jean

My favourite trend so far this season is undoubtedly the boyfriend jean. I think they are a great staple piece to add to your wardrobe, as they are so simplistic and can be styled in a variety of ways. My favourite style of boyfriend jean at the moment is a slimmer fit, lighter wash, with distressing. I still have yet to find a pair of boyfriend jeans to add to my wardrobe but I definitely think these Rag & Bone ones could make the cut. I think boyfriend jeans are a great piece to invest in as you can get good use from them and they always seem to come back into style. You can find these Rag & Bone boyfriend jeans here.

2. The Trench Coat

The trench coat is a timeless spring essential. It's stylish and is the perfect way to transition from winter weather to spring weather. It's perfect for that in between stage where there is still a chill in the air, but it's too warm to continue wearing a winter coat. It can be kept casual for daytime wear or dressed up for the evening. I love the camel coloured trench as it is so versatile and is a timeless classic for both males and females. Although I've been gravitating toward the neutral coloured trench I think pastel coloured trenches make a great option as well, especially for the spring. You can find this particular trench coat here.

3. Oversized Denim Jacket

The 90's makes a come back with the oversized denim jacket. I've always been a fan of the jean jacket but this season I've been particularly loving the oversized style. To be perfectly honest I've been loving a lot of "borrowed from the boys" style clothing lately. I'm not sure how men feel about this fashion craze but if I want to dress like a boy, I am going to dress like a boy. What a great way to save money too! Just steal your boyfriends clothes and make it a fashion statement. Anyway, oversized denim is a yes and vintage Levi's denim jackets are a great route to go. You can find this jacket and many more here.

4. The Lace-Up Heel

Nude heels and spring are a match made in heaven. The nude hue with denim and spring weather pair perfectly together. The lace-up heel is a great twist on this trend and adds a little something extra to the traditional nude heel. These shoes pair wonderfully with boyfriends jeans and add femininity and sexiness to the overall look. These heels can be found here.

5. The Floral Dress

Spring means it's time to bust out patterns, prints and florals. Every spring wardrobe calls for some variation of a floral printed skirt or dress. If your adventurous and like to play around with punchy patterns you can find this dress here.

6. Suede Skirt

Another trend I've been loving this spring is the revival of 70's fashion. I love the 70's and 70's inspired clothing. My favourite TV show is "That 70's Show", so I am definitely all about this decade making a come back. A great way to rock this trend is by wearing suede and the suede skirt in particular is a great way to incorporate this style into your wardrobe for spring. You can find this skirt here.

7. Stripes

Personally I think stripes are a basic wardrobe staple that work year round. But there's just something about stripes and spring. A great way to wear stripes in the spring is through a simple striped dress. You can find this striped tee shirt dress here.

8. Fringe Booties
Every girl needs a nice pair of booties to wear in the spring. They are the footwear equivalent of the trench. They are the perfect piece to help with the transition from winter to spring. A great twist on the classic bootie is the fringe bootie. They give a more spring-like vibe and have that festival season feel. You can find these fringe booties here.

So, there you have it. Some of my favourite essentials for this spring!

IM BACK

Well, I guess I've got some explaining to do...It's been a long time since I last blogged and I am so sorry for going MIA for so long. I had attempted to completely redo my blog and ended up almost loosing all of my blog posts. I also tried to change my current web address to "blondeintentions.com" but encountered quite a few problems along the way...needless to say it will turn in to "blonde intentions.com" sometime in May!

Anyways, after all of my struggles I finally managed to give my blog a make over. Not as drastic as I was anticipating but I learned quite a few lessons throughout this whole process. One lesson being that this is something fun, something I enjoy and I have to keep it that way. What I mean is, it just isn't worth it to overcomplicate things and make things more stressful than they need to be. So, I finally decided that the best thing for me is to go back to the basics. That way I can get back to doing what I love.

Another reason for my disappearance is school. I recently finished my first year of University and as those of you know who are either in University or have experienced University, it tends to be a little overwhelming at times. Or even for those of you who have had to write finals or exams, it can get pretty hectic. When my finals approached it became really difficult to focus on my blog but now I am finished school for the summer so no more excuses!

I am really excited to get back to blogging and I promise I will never disappear like this again! Get ready for a summer filled with lots of posts from Blonde Intentions!

Now, to what's really important...my outfit. My friend and I headed over to a local beach for the day to check out some of the beautiful scenery. Where I live, it is still pretty chilly. Our weather is in that awkward winter/spring phase so it can be difficult trying to figure out how to dress accordingly. I decided to wear a fuzzy sweater to keep warm, but not too warm, and paired it with some ripped denim jeans and my good ol' Chuck's. I kept the colours of this outfit light to give the overall outfit a more "spring-like" vibe. Because if we convince ourselves it's spring we will actually get spring...right? Well, at least I'm optimistic. Can't blame a girl for trying.

ICE FALLS

So, this is the first blog post I've made in a while! I apologize for taking so long to get around to it but honestly, I've either been really busy or there hasn't been anything going on at all. It's been one extreme to the other, but now it's time to get back to what I love.
After I finished my morning classes yesterday, my friend Rachel and I decided to check out the "Frozen Falls" and see what all the hype is about. Basically, the Frozen Falls is something located at a local beach in our hometown. It's called Middle Cove Beach and is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, so it is absolutely FREEZING. The beach is completely covered in pebbles and is surrounded by big rocky cliffs. What occurred on one of those cliffs this winter was truly incredible. A waterfall on one of the cliffs froze, creating a picturesque display of icicles that look like a scene straight from the movie "Frozen"...(you can just call me Queen Elsa from now on). It was an amazing sight to see and it is the moments like those that make me learn to love and appreciate my hometown.
Naturally, I had to seize this opportunity and take some photos against this beautiful backdrop. Since it was clearly VERY cold outside, I made sure to dress for the weather. I decided to wear my faux-fur coat, not only to stay warm but to also be the main piece of the entire outfit. I paired the coat with neutral colours in order to allow it to be the main focus. With the coat I wore a relaxed, white long- sleeve shirt and some plain, black, high-waisted jeans. I finished the look with my black combat boots to give it an edgier vibe and accessorized with silver earrings (and sadly lost one of the earrings).
What I was wearing
Aritzia faux-fur coat
American Apparel high-waist jeans
Garage long sleeve tee
Boathouse combat boots
