EUROPE TRIP 2016 - PART 4: ITALY

After Amsterdam, we made our way over to Italy. The weather in Italy was absolutely beautiful! A huge change from the chilly UK and rainy Amsterdam. Our first stop in Italy was Naples, where we stayed in the coolest AirBnb. We met up with two of our other friends there and shared a spacious house between the 6 of us.

Tip: Be sure to try the coffee and pizza (they had gluten free!) in Naples, it's seriously amazing.

After Naples, the 6 of us took a train to Sorrento, where we spent the next few days in a cute little beach house. Once in Sorrento, we took a train back to Mount Vesuvius and spent the day riding horses up the mountain to the top of the volcano. It was undeniably one of of the most incredible experiences I have ever had in my life. After our adventurous day at Mount Vesuvius, we went back to Sorrento where we spent our time exploring the town and visiting the beach. On our last day in Sorrento we took a scenic bus ride along the Amalfi coast and stopped to visit gorgeous Amalfi before preparing to catch the train to Florence.

Tip: The bus ride along the Amalfi coast is absolutely amazing, but take caution if you have a fear of heights...trust me.

In Florence, we did lots of shopping, ate plenty of gelato and visited the cathedral. After Florence, we took the train back to Rome where we visited the colosseum, the Vatican, the Trevi Fountain and explored so much more of the city. There was never a dull moment in Italy, it was such a culturally interesting place with so much to offer. I know I've probably said it about every single place so far...but Italy is definitely a place I'd love to go back to!

If you are ever in Sorrento you should definitely pay a visit to Puro for yummy salads, delicious gelato and an indoor swing!

EUROPE TRIP 2016 - PART 3: AMSTERDAM

After spending some time in Scotland, we finally made our way from the UK over to Europe. Our first stop in Europe was Amsterdam...a place we were all VERY excited to visit. But, unfortunately for us, our Amsterdam experience got off to a bit of a rough start. We had a crazy airport experience that left us all a little shaken for the rest of our time there..which was really unfortunate because we were only there for a few days. That being said, we still tried our best to make the most of our time in Amsterdam! Aside from a few adverse circumstances, Amsterdam really was a remarkable place. Both the city and the people were absolutely beautiful. I definitely want to go back to Amsterdam in the future, in order to experience the city to the fullest!

While in Amsterdam we visited the Rijksmuseum, the Anne Frank House, the Red Light District and more! Amsterdam is definitely a very unique city, to say the least. It's crazy, strange, exciting and beautiful, all at the same time. I can't wait to go back and see more of what this incredible place has to offer.

Tips for Amsterdam: Definitely make time to check out the Anne Frank House and the Rijksmuseum for experiences you won't forget! Also, if your planning on checking out the "coffeeshops", your best bet is to set aside a separate day for it...if you've ever been to Amsterdam you'll know what I mean.

EUROPE TRIP 2016 - PART 2: SCOTLAND

After spending a few magical days in London, England, my friends and I made our way over to Edinburgh, Scotland. To be perfectly honest I didn't have any major expectations for Scotland. Of course I was excited to go there, but I didn't really know much about the place. The extent of my Scottish knowledge stretches back to primary school when we were doing a project on our family tree and my family informed me that I have Scottish roots...that's it. So, Scotland was essentially a mystery to me.

Side Note: If you read yesterday's post you'll understand why I don't have many photos from the beginning of my trip (if you haven't read it yet, no worries! just click here :)). So, I tried to make do with the few photos I managed to salvage from Scotland and I also threw in a few Instagram photos (@brittanyalexandrataylor) that I posted while I was there.

When we arrived in Edinburgh we were all in awe of how incredibly beautiful it was. No joke, it seriously looked like a fairytale town. Our hostel was also really cool and located in the perfect spot (near the castle, the pubs and very close to all the shops).

Tip: If your ever in Edinburgh and tight on cash, I highly recommend hitting up Budget Backpackers for the duration of your stay.

While in Edinburgh we met a bunch of new people and made some new friends. People there were super friendly and outgoing. We spent our days there exploring and visited Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, did LOTS of shopping along Princes Street and also checked out Princes Street Gardens (pictured above).

My favourite thing about Edinburgh definitely had to be visiting Princes Street Gardens (I know I only have a few photos of it, but you can still tell how absolutely gorgeous it is) and also, getting to learn more about the town. Fun fact, Edinburgh is actually known as one of the most haunted places in the UK and for someone who loves ghost stories and being creeped out, a ghost tour was definitely on our list of things to do while we were there.

Tip: Don't pronounce Edinburgh with a hard "g" (you will get judged), it's pronounced "ed-in-buh-ruh"...we learned this lesson real quick

Even though we didn't have many expectations for Scotland, Edinburgh made a huge impression on us. We had such an amazing experience while we were in Scotland that it ended up being one of our top favourite places that we visited on our trip!
